Exercise 1
Think of someone you are having difficulty connecting with in a way that is respectful to you both.
- Remember a time when you experienced mutual respect in a way that felt healthy, supportive and useful. Connect with this sense and log its VAK description.
- Identify your desired outcome for this relationship, and say it out loud, as you see, hear, feel the evidence from 1st and 3rd position.
- Layout 3 straight lines ahead of you and be aware of where the half way point is, labelling the lines Tender, Fierce, Playful. This side of that point is the Dark Side. On the other side are the positive Attributes.
- Given the descriptions above, determine where you stand on each of these lines. If your starting point for any one of them is in the dark side, begin to walk up to the mid point line, and beyond if that feels right for you. With each step, ask yourself the following questions Only take the next step once you have completed your answers
- What has to happen for this to happen?
- What will then happen?
- How is this similar to other events in my life?
- Mindful of your outcome, establish where you need to be on each of these lines. Mark these points literally or in your mind, so that you can return to the precise point should you need to.
- Take yourself to the Tender line. And now facing the other two, notice your state here. Walking forward onto the point on the Fierce line, add this state, and then move to the point on the Playful line and add this state to the other two. Integrate all three states and notice the similarities and differences to your Mutually Respectful state. Are you there yet? Is there anything else you need to do by way of adjustment on any of the lines?
