Reframing
Richard Bandler John Grinder Target audience: Individuals who are interested in the work of the co-originators of NLP, and those who work in the area of assisting others to manage changes in their lives. Summary of content: As with others in this series of books the format is one, which records the authors running a seminar for individuals who in the main appear to be working in the field of psychotherapy. The central theme is the demonstration and explanation of the technique known as reframing, particularly when integrated with parts work. Recommended features: The many examples and explanations provided by the co-authors both from their own experiences and based upon questions posed by the delegates really bring the book to life and shows how the material can be used to assist explorers with unresolved issues. Personal impressions: An excellent book, which can be read on many levels. It could be of interest to initiates to the world of NLP to illustrate both many of NLPs presuppositions and some of its component parts. I felt however that it would probably be of more benefit to those who have done some work in the field and have some prior knowledge on which to build. I certainly found it of benefit in reading and reaffirming how NLP should not be approached as a series of techniques, but rather as a holistic flexible approach to a set of circumstances, and which when used congruently and elegantly can assist in the establishment of a whole new set of beliefs, mindsets and subsequent behaviours.
