Words that Change Minds
Shelle Rose Charvet Target audience: Anyone who is interested in getting the best out of themselves or others. Summary of content: A book based on the work known as Meta Programmes. These are the product of the modelling and collating of the drivers, which firstly motivate individuals to commence activities, and then the different ways in which individuals like to structure their work and decision-making. If a person’s meta programme are not matched then they are not likely to be motivated to either start an activity or having embarked upon the work or project if their working traits are not met they will not be as productive as they might be and an early exit from that situation is probably on the cards or at least wished for. Unlike some other personality instruments Meta Programmes does not seek to categorise individuals on a permanent basis, but suggest that individuals may vary their traits depending on the context in which they find themselves, thereby allowing for individual and contextual flexibility. Recommended features: The short snappy descriptions of each of the meta programmes, along with the words and behaviours, which can be used to both spot them and work effectively alongside others who are using the various programmes. Personal impressions: I really value this book as I find the content interesting and the format both easy to read and use, to the extent that I actually started carrying it around with me to refer to following interactions with others, so that I could confirm the programmes I had spotted and identify those which had not yet materialised to me. By doing this I soon found that the programmes were becoming part of my in time analysis of communication and that I was more easily able to develop greater levels of rapport, by mirroring the appropriate programmes.
