Time Line Therapy And The Basis Of Personality
Tad James and Wyatt Woodsmall Target audience: Although the book is easy to read, anyone who had not had some experience of NLP would struggle to understand the context of the examples given in the book, which are mostly taken from Tad James' workshops. Summary of content: The book is really in two interlinking parts, based on the presupposition that we are who we are as a result of our collection of memories, our values and beliefs and the parts that maintain them. 1.An introduction to time line work: exploring through time and in time: demonstrations of change personal history/disconnecting the significant emotional event/handling trauma/ programming your future with time line 2. Meta Programmes, values and their hierarchies; handling conflicting values and beliefs-working with parts Recommended features: A great introduction to Timeline work and its effectiveness. Use of demonstrations to show application Personal impressions: The ecology of some of the language -especially if the reader has not had access to their own principles around working with others with NLP techniques-is scary. Even despite the warning at the front of the book. And ….."(the techniques)….have the possibility of changing a person's personality totally and completely …" " I changed their x in a few minutes"….…. I wonder where I draw the line at admiring someone's capacity to notice what they are good at, and feeling that the focus of attention has shifted in the writing of the book from the client's outcome to the blowing of the author's trumpet? The section on the formation of values seemed somewhat outdated and the evidence for linking the values to a particular historical moment a little shaky. The timeline work and the parts negotiation demonstrations show such a lot of elegance and enabled me to really feel confident to work with timeline. When I have, parts work has emerged.
