Therapeutic Patterns Of Milton H. Erickson.
David Gordon and Maribeth Myers Anderson Target audience: Those in change work or just plain fascinated by Milton Model and what there is to learn from the work of the man. Summary of content: David and Maribeth's respectful modelling of Erickson's therapeutic work as opposed to his hypnotic work. Told through a recording of Erickson's words/stories and accompanied by the clean pulling out of structural patterns that they have noticed. Worth noting "these patterns are not necessarily techniques that he (Erickson) knowingly applies, but are patterns within his ongoing behaviour, available for use when called for, just at the syntax you use to formulate well-formed sentences as part of your behaviour, operating not as a piece of technology intentionally applied but unconsciously as needed, and so , gracefully and congruently…." Recommended features: The stories, and the underlying structure of how Erickson works from within clients maps that is gently and congruently exposed by David and Maribeth so that one can see how we might begin to practise this practice Personal impressions: The powerful stories that Erickson tells of this clients' work and his capacity to work from within their maps are now in themselves almost mythical within NLP. Check out the wonderful story of his letting the horse find its own way home: "all I did was keep his attention on the road"; his clear and congruent definition of rapport (" it is most definitely not about liking: the client has the experience of communicating with someone who understands his/her model of the world"); and the way he works with whatever the client gives him, being himself at all time. This is a book that every Master Practitioner should read. I want to own it now!
