Limiting Needs
February Exercise of the Month
|
Here is a linguistic exercise which helps loosen your hold on to a limiting need.
- Think of a need that you have which holds you back. Start off by putting it into a nominalisation, ie the noun and not the verb eg Satisfaction rather than Be satisfied.
- Then think what this might mean and what it might lead to.
- Now do the same with each of the subsequent statements, having turned the ‘frozen noun’ into its verb.
- Notice how your thinking shifts and what you might end up believing.
Simple or what!
| Limiting Need | Which means ........? | Which leads to ........? |
| I need 'recognition' | .... | .... | ....
| I want to be 'recognised' | .... | .... |
| I am 'recognised' | .... | .... |
| I am being 'recognised' | .... | .... |
| I 'recognise' | .... | .... |
I would be delighted to hear from you regarding your experiences of working with this model. Do email me on fran@nlpand.co.uk
All the best
