The winter Olympics in eighty eight
Was there to be had for the good and the great
Eddie was known as a bit of a joke
A man from a city renown for its smoke
Up to the top of the mountain he went
A long way up for a quick descent
The first man off was a German he knew
Just like him to be at the front of the queue
One at a time they went down that steep hill
As for poor Eddie it made him feel ill
Watching and waiting as they sped off with ease
Poor Eddie just thought my nose it will freeze
He stood at the top and watched for the light
But all he could see was snow blinding white
Thank God for the hooter as it made its noise
And Eddie the Eagle regained his poise
All he could think as he went from the top
Was Ive started, Ive gone so now don’t stop
The snow was compressed with a feeling of glass
Oh God thought the Eagle just not on my ass
But Eddie the Eagle had practiced quite well
Though whether enough twas too early to tell
He tried to remember his plans and his tips
Yet all he could see was his falls and his trips
Ive done it Ive blown it I think I will die
Just wait said our Eddie Im convinced I can fly
As he gathered his speed over the lumps and the bumps
Eddie quickly pictured one of his jumps
He remembered it clearly in colour as well
The old one in which he so nearly fell
That’s the one he exclaimed my best to date
Its just what I need and its still not too late
He flew through the air and gazed at the sky
And then for a second he realised just why
Just in that moment he knew he had won
Achieving and doing what had to be done
He went past the crowd and started to land
Come on said the people lets give him a hand
They clapped and they cheered as much as they could
The jump hadn’t won but Eddie felt good
The medals were given to one two and three
But you know the winner the same as me
Eddie hadn’t got close to all the rest
But for Eddie the Eagle still a personal best
At the end of the day they gave out the gold
To the one who went furthest in the snow and the cold
The history you know in the papers you read
But a question stands out it has to be said
If you had been there with glory in mind
Which part of you would be best to find
He went for it once now what about you
Will you be brave - and do all you can do
