Models All The Way Down

by Fran Burgess on April 17, 2010

As our Trainer Training approaches its climax this week, our folks have been fabulously busy producing all their work. It is fantastic to see such commitment to learning and NLP.
What is emerging for me is the awareness that models are everywhere. Take a handout for example. You would think writing instructions for a technique would be simple. Well it is, if you follow the CARES criteria for a model – since a handout is just a tabular model. It has to be Coherent – each Step and their bullet points following a consistent framework of logical levels – essential for easy navigation. It has to be Accessible, written so that the Guide has a script to directly offer the Explorer. It has to be Robust so that it can be used by most people and doesn’t assume knowledge. It has to be Effective, so that no stage is missed out, questions are precise and targeted, and it includes calibration and future pacing. And above all it has to be Simple, with all unnecessary comment stripped out, a light touch with Milton Model, with meta comments to the Guide kept to a minimum.
And the same applies to a Consultancy Proposal – the proposal is a tabular model as well.
All good stuff.
Wish our people well this week, as they prepare to strut their stuff and celebrate their learning.
